It’s just like you don’t have to do anything to be dirty, just sit and you will get dirty but to get clean you have to take action, you have to go to the bathroom and take a shower.

So the point is that to achieve anything or change anything in your life you need to take action, without action you can’t achieve anything.

This is important because our body is constantly fighting the disorders & changes of the world. And the person who becomes inactive in this fight keeps on losing in every aspect of his life. In order to survive in this world, you need to take action.

2. “Change is a universal law, that’s why every happiness or sorrow is temporary”

Change is only constant in life. Everything in this world is continuously changing, every minute of every hour of every day, change is always occurring, no matter whether you like it or not.

So the best way to deal or handle change is to face it not run away from it. You should face it, prepare yourself for that change and make the best use of it.

Ex – In the month of June, when the rainy season starts you prepare yourself for 4 months what to wear, and what to eat during the season so that you can’t get ill. This preparation makes you ready to face that seasonal change.

After that in the Winter season, Summar season same type of thing you do to keep yourself fit which means you are handling that change every year (in India, the season changes after every 4 months).

This situation clearly shows why we call that change is a universal law. Change is happening every moment and you need to prepare yourself for that change. This is one of the lessons given in the Bhagavad Gita (chapter – 2, verse – 14) lord Krishna said to Arjun that – 

“Your senses create sensations like cold, heat, happiness, sadness, or stress in you by coming in contact with the things that are heard, smelled, tasted, or felt. These feelings are temporary. It goes away as it comes. So Arjun you should learn to tolerate these changes.”

So from this lesson in Bhagavad Gita, you can understand that in order to earn success or expertise in any field, you have to be adaptable to new situations, and you have to always be ready to think creatively to find solutions to different problems in life.

You have to be also ready to explore new opportunities and constantly put yourself in an unfamiliar or uncomfortable environment. You should master the change by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone every time.

3. “Keep your focus on your duty, not on the end result.”

This lesson talks about goal setting, like how most people decide what they want to achieve in life, they set a goal for themselves but they are unable to cross the obstacles or distractions that come in their way of reaching the goal.

Because most of the time their focus is on the end results only. But Bhagavad Gita says your focus should be on your duty. Perform your duty with 100% effort and leave the end result to god. There is one interesting story from Mahabharata that emphasize this particular lesson.  

In Mahabharata, one day when guru Dron (Dron was Guru of Arjun) is teaching archery to all his students. He created a task to test the focus of his students. As per that task, all the students should hit the arrow at the eye of a wooden bird placed on the tree.

One by one guru Dron called each individual and ask them the same question “what you seeing on that tree?” all the students answered differently, some said that they are seeing the bird on the tree, some said they are seeing a tree, some said they are seeing wings of a bird, etc.

But when Guru Dron asked Arjun the same question, Arjun replied that “I can see only the bird’s eye and nothing else.” Because Arjun knew clearly that the focus of the task is to hit the arrow in the bird’s eye. 

This story highlights one of the important lessons of the Bhagavad Gita. As per that you must focus on your duty like Arjun and remove all the unnecessary distractions that come on your path. 

Put your attention on your duty, on your work with full energy so that you do not see anything else. Whatever work you are doing right now just focus on the process and give your 100% in that and then leave the responsibility of the result to god.

4. “You become what you believe”

Belief is the world’s most powerful thing or we can say a feeling. Because it can heal a sick person, it can make a sad person happy, it can make a failed person successful. With strong belief, you can achieve anything in your life.

Every great person first convinces his mind that he is worth doing something big, he can do something big in his life, He has all the talent and capability to achieve great results.

5. “Cowardice and fear are the enemies of success”

The 5th great Bhagavad Gita lesson focuses on the biggest enemy of success i.e. fear. Fear is one of our oldest feelings that make us doubt our abilities and strength.

You feel fear in two situations the number one is when you don’t have the knowledge about a particular thing. For example, somebody asks you to drive a car, and you don’t know how to drive so automatically when you sit in the driver’s seat you start feeling fearful. 

Lack of knowledge is responsible for fear and the 2nd is situation is when you are unable to manage your emotions, you start feeling fearful. Fear makes you mentally weak and disturbs you from your goal.

That’s why you should pursue more knowledge and wisdom from scriptures/mentors as these two things will teach you how to handle unknown and unexpected situations in life.

Knowledge and Wisdome destroyes fear completely.

 

6. “Your mind can either help you grow in life or it can ruin your life”

In chapter – 6, verse: 5 Lord Krishna says that “For those who have conquered the mind, it is their friend. For those who have failed to do so, the mind works like an enemy.”

Lord Krishna advised us to take control of the mind otherwise it will control you and if your mind starts controlling you then your destruction is guaranteed.

If you are not the owner of your mind then you are slaves of your mind and you will do things that your mind says to you every time.

So focus on taking control of your mind, especially the subconscious mind because it runs your entire life. For that, you practice positive affirmation and meditation every day.

 

7. “The very first step to master our emotions and mind begins with our senses.”

This 7th Bhagavad Gita lesson talks about lust. In Bhagavad Gita, all the things that distract you from your goal are called lust. For example – if your goal is to reduce weight and become healthy but you eat chocolates and sweets quite often in a week.

That means you are doing lust for the taste that you are getting after eating those things. If your goal is to achieve a good score on the test, but you check social media every now and then you are doing lust to those likes/notifications that you are getting on social media.

In chapter – 3, verse: 40 you will find where this lust lives in the human body. Lord Krishna says that “The senses, mind, and intellect are said to be breeding grounds of desire/lust. Through them, it clouds one’s knowledge and deludes embodied soul.

So first you need to control your senses by controlling the things that are coming in contact with your senses. The more bad things you put in your mouth, ear, nose, and eyes, the more bad things come outside of your body.

“Listen good things, eat healthy foods, watch good content and soon you will see a great change in your life.”

 

8. “Practice meditation regularly”

This is one of the great Bhagavad Gita lessons because with the help of meditation you can remove your doubts, fear, stress, and anxiety from your mind.

Meditation teaches us the biggest lesson that “you are neither body nor mind, you are energy. And energy cannot be created and destroyed.”

When you understand and experience this truth with the practice of meditation, you will get close to your true self (who you are?) and starts feeling satisfaction in life.

This will change your life completely because after knowing yourself you can easily make meaningful connections with others.

 

9. “Follow your duty (dharma)”

Duty or dharma is a word that tells us there is a type of work that is bigger than the person who is doing that work. Eg- Freedom fighters fought for the country and sacrificed their lives for the country, they knew that freedom for the county is much more important than their life.

This is nothing but the ‘Nishkam karma’ as per Bhagavad Gita. Most people fail in achieving any goal because they see their work from the point of view of profit and loss.

They think that why we should do so much hard work in the work that improves the lives of others. Instead of that, they prefer to do the work that fulfills their personal desires only. But fulfilling the desire every time is a neverending process.

 Lord Krishna says in Gita that Earth is a land of karma for all of us and we will be remembered even after our death only because of our good karma.

So don’t run away from doing your duty. Your desireless action is your duty and your duty is your religion. Do the desireless work that always adds value to other’s life. That is the 2nd last lesson from Bhagavad Gita.

 

10. “Your life is a result of your choices”

In chapter – 18, verse: 63 Lord Krishna says to Arjun “I have explained to you all the knowledge of Gita, that is more secret than all the secrets in the world. Pond over it deeply and then decide what you want to do. On one side is your duty and the other side is fear/cowardice.”

Same like Arjun, you also face such situations many times in your life but in every situation, you always have the freedom to choose what is the right thing to do. Remember that your life is a result of your choice.

Whatever choices you make in your life, respective results in your life will unfold. What do you want to choose in life? success or mediocrity, complaining or problem-solving, laziness or discipline ask yourself and once you make that choice then start taking action.
